Happy Easter! Jesus said He is the BREAD of life and today He is RISEN...so I'm sharing a video that Ashley and I made back in our RV days about how to make a simple loaf of whole wheat bread. Jake did the camera work :-)
We've simplified it even further since then...skipping the honey and the wheat gluten...but the video will show you how easy it is to make a wholesome loaf that will go great with a salad or soup...and nourish your body with nutrients you need to stay healthy. Our current recipe is printed below.
Whole Wheat Bread
5 c. wheatberries ground to yield a little over 6 cups whole wheat flour
3 c. lukewarm water
1 1/2 Tbsp. granulated yeast
1 Tbsp. salt
5 Tbsp. olive oil
Mix it all together in a big bowl. Let it rise in a warm place for 2-3 hours. Seperate into three equal chunks. Refrigerate in a lidded (not air tight) container and use over the next five days.
When ready to bake, form into a round loaf and let rise for 60 minutes. If you're in a hurry, form into bun size loaves, skip the rising, and put into hot oven. Bake full size loaf for about 45 minutes; buns for 25 minutes. Let cool a bit before slicing. Enjoy!
